Longhorns ride four-game win streak into subs

    The Chase County girls basketball team advanced to the C1-12 district finals Tuesday night with a 51-38 win over second seeded Hershey.
    After wins over North Platte St. Pat’s, Gering, Hitchcock County and Dundy County Stratton, Tuesday’s win over the Panthers gives CCS five in a row and six wins in its last seven games.
    The Longhorns’ only loss in that stretch was to Bridgeport Jan. 31. Now CCS will see the Bulldogs once more in the subdistrict finals Thursday. The game will begin in Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m.
    Bridgeport, ranked ninth in the All Class ratings, beat Chadron 66-30 Tuesday night. Chadron had advanced to the game with a Monday win over Ogallala, 51-44.

    The Longhorns prepped for the post season with a win at Hitchcock County last Tuesday.
    Bryn McNair was too much for the Falcons to handle in the first quarter. McNair was 4-4 from the free throw line and finished the quarter with 11 of Chase County’s 15 points.
    McNair scored another seven points in the second quarter, while Olivia Spady chipped in five points. CCS led 31-11 at halftime.
    Chase County held the Falcons to one field goal and two free throws in the third quarter. For CCS, Liz Reeves and McNair each made three pointers to go with six points by Spady.
    The Longhorns closed out the 54-23 win with a 10 point fourth quarter, four of which came from Reeves.
    McNair led the Longhorns with 22 points and six steals. Spady also finished in double figures with 15 points.
    CCS led the Falcons in transition points, 12-0, and points off turnovers, 30-6.
    CCS was on point defensively Friday against an overmatched Dundy County Stratton team.
    Chase County built up a 25-6 halftime lead and cruised to a 55-12 win.
    The Longhorns held DCS to two field goals in the game.
    Once more, Chase County dominated in transition points, 18-0, and points off turnovers, 26-3.
    Twenty of the Longhorns 43 rebounds were on the offensive end, while CCS only allowed the Tigers 14 rebounds total.
    Similar to Tuesday’s game, McNair scored 22 points and Spady added 16 points. McNair also had 15 rebounds and six steals.
