February preliminary hearings set for two Chase Co. Court cases

    Preliminary hearings in Chase County Court have been set later this month for two men who are in jail.
    In Chase County Court last week, the cases involving Boone Huff and Jose Garcia-Porras both were moved to preliminary hearings.
    The two men each face five charges in their individual cases.
    Huff’s case will have a preliminary hearing Feb. 10 at 8:45 a.m. He is being held in the Lincoln County Jail and appeared before the judge telephonically Jan. 25.
    Stemming from an alleged Dec. 27 break-in at Bomgaars in Imperial, Huff faces felony burglary charges and misdemeanors of criminal mischief, 1st degree criminal trespass and shoplifting. He’s also charged with unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle at Prairie States Communication. Both businesses are along Highway 61.
    County Judge Edward Steenburg continued Huff’s bond at $25,000.
    Garcia-Porras, who was arrested after a stabbing outside the city gym Dec. 11, is facing five felonies resulting from the incident when two men were hospitalized with stab wounds.
    He faces two 1st degree assault charges, two charges for use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and possession of a deadly weapon on a prohibited person.
    He was originally charged with three felonies and a bond of $150,000 which was later increased to the current $250,000.
    On Jan. 23, Judge Steenburg ordered a continuance of his case at the request of Garcia-Porras’ counsel Ryan Wilcox.
    A preliminary hearing for Garcia-Porras is now set for Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in Chase County Court.
