Bronco volleyball eyeing postseason

    The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team started off its RPAC tournament with a first round win over Hitchcock County, but ended its appearance with losses to Maywood/Hayes Center (22-1) and Paxton (22-6)
    WP traveled to Hayes Center for its first and second round matches last Thursday and its match Monday.
    The Broncos’ victory against Hitchcock County (8-21) was their third win of the season over the Falcons.
    WP only led the first set 9-8 before breaking the set open for a 25-18 win. The Broncos trailed 3-10 before storming back with 10-straight points to take the lead. WP held a one-point lead in the second set, 21-20, before closing out the 25-20 win. The Broncos’ 23-13 third set lead shrunk to 23-21 before WP took a 25-23 win.
    WP went on to face MHC that same night. The Broncos lost 12-25, 13-25, 16-25 to the Wolves. Putting together scoring runs was tough throughout the night against Class D1’s second ranked team.
    The RPAC tournament ended Monday night with a 25-19, 25-19 loss to Paxton.

Five-set win over MV
    The Broncos’ week started with a wild Tuesday win at home over Medicine Valley (12-10).
    WP jumped out to an 8-1 lead  in the first set, but MV used three big rotations to give the Broncos a 16-25 loss. WP trailed throughout a 22-25 loss in the second set. The tide turned in the third set. The Broncos took their first lead in the set at 25-24 and won 27-25. WP broke open a 13-13 tie in the fourth set to win 25-16, then finished off MV with a 15-11 win in the fourth set. Up next
    With the completion of the RPAC tournament, WP will wrap up its regular season with a home date against Brady (10-16) Friday.
    Postseason play will begin Monday. As the highest seed, Wallace will host the D2-9 subdistrict games. The Broncos are in line for the third seed and will likely have a rematch with Paxton. Official pairing will be released later this week.
    The 12 subdistrict winners and the next four non-subdistrict winners with the highest averages in the point standings will be seeded into district pairings.
    Districts will be played Saturday, Oct. 29.
