Broncos looking for a win to close out regular season
With its playoff life on the line, the Wauneta-Palisade football team lost to Paxton 0-48 Friday. The loss dropped WP to 19th in the points standings.
WP gave up touchdowns on Paxton’s first seven possessions of the game.
Broncos’ Co-Head Coach Randy Geier said WP had a few things go against it early in the game and Paxton fed off the momentum.
While WP struggled with tackling, the Broncos moved the ball well on its first two series. WP’s first series stalled on 4th and 9 in Tiger territory and its second ended on a fumble at the Paxton 18-yard line. Once they fell behind, the Broncos couldn’t catch up.
“The coaches and players are disappointed in our performance. Overall our team played hard most of the game,” Geier said.
Up next
The Broncos will take on Brady (3-4) Friday night to end the regular season. Brady is 15th in the point standings and, with the top 16 teams making the playoffs, will come in needing a win over WP to secure its spot in the playoffs.
Geier said Brady has a lot of team speed.
“We will need to tackle well on defense and stay on our blocks offensively. I’m positive we will have a great week of preparation and have a good chance to win the game if we play well all four quarters,” he said.
