Eldon Frank Kerchal

Eldon Frank Kerchal, 83 of Lexington, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022.
Eldon was born on July 2, 1939 in Palisade to Frank R and Bessie Rose (Antone) Kerchal and lived in the sod house 17 miles north east of Wauneta for two years until construction of the new house was started. As a young boy, Eldon attended Galena Country Grade School north of Wauneta through 8th grade.
Prior to graduating in 1957 he bought his first car, a 1957 black and white, 2 door Chevy. Gene Harchelroad drove Eldon to Oxford to purchase it. It was his pride and joy. After graduation from Wauneta High School, Eldon married Elsie Merrill in 1958. To this marriage three children were born and became his new pride and joy. David Ray, Rhonda Lynn and Steven Eldon. Eldon worked as a Safety Inspector on the missile sites and traveled around to North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico. After his father’s death in 1964 they all moved back to Wauneta to the family farm.
Eldon was a salesman for Golden Harvest Seed Corn for 33 years, being top salesman three of those years. He also was a licensed and bonded cattle buyer, buying up until his death. He enjoyed buying cattle immensely along with all the close relationships he developed through the years.
Eldon and his loving wife Reta lived south of Lexington for 20 years.
Eldon enjoyed working with cattle, gardening and working around the yard with Reta, a good game of Pitch from time to time, spending time with his children, grandchildren, his close sisters and so many friends and neighbors.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bessie; brother Ron; wives Elsie Kerchal and Mary Kerchal; and niece Lynette Spence.
He leaves behind his loving wife Reta of Lexington; sisters Linda and Leane Kerchal of Ogallala; sister-in-law Anne Kerchal of Sterling; children Dave (Kathy) Kerchal of Wauneta, Rhonda (Bill) Bischoff of Wauneta and Steve (Linda) Kerchal of Culbertson; step son Darin Owens of Omaha; grandchildren Justin (Rosey) Kerchal of Gilbert, Arizona, Jenae Bischoff of Las Vegas, Nevada, Logan (Mallory) Bischoff of Beaver, Oklahoma and Jesse (Jasmine Laird) Kerchal of McCook; niece Shawna Shelley of Loveland, Colorado; nephew Steve Kerchal of Sterling, Colorado; step-grandson Blaze Owens of Redwood City, California; step-great-grandson Jason Brown of Gilbert, Arizona; Mary’s children Jill and Jeff; and step-grandchildren Heather, Kiley, Nikki.
Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Eldon’s memory, has been suggested to the Wauneta FFA Chapter.
