Imperial dominates singles matches to win Chase County Cup

    Golfers for the Imperial Country Club won nine of 12 singles matches over Enders Lake Golf Course golfers to capture the Chase County Cup Saturday.
    The Imperial Country Club played host to the match, which is in its 21st year.
    The event is played in a match play format over a possible 27 holes.
    The first match consists of twosomes best ball team play.
    In this format, Imperial won four of the six matches.
    Following the best ball matches, the two-man teams faced off in an alternate shot format.
    Enders narrowed the margin in these matches, winning three outright and halving another match. That pulled Enders within one point of Imperial, 6.5 to 5.5 points going into the afternoon singles matches.
    The 12 golfers from each team go head-to-head in singles matches, with one point up for grabs in each match.
    Imperial won nine of the singles matches to give them a final total of 15.5 points to Enders’ 8.5 points. That represents the largest margin of victory over the past 21 years.
    Enders held the cup coming into the match after winning it last year 12.5 to 11.5 points. Imperial needed at least 12.5 points to claim the cup this year.
    Over the 21 years, Imperial has now won the cup 11 times to Enders’ 10.
    Golfers for the Imperial Country Club included Tom Luhrs, Jim Pirog, Russ Pankonin, Kirk Wilson, Jeff Castor, Brad Cochran, Aaron Cyboron, Eric McDaniel, Jason Burke, Derek Russell, Travis Wheeler and Brad Spady. Chris Lee served as the non-playing captain.
    Enders Lake golfers included  Troy Space, Joel Burke, Matt Klima, Aaron Keiser, Matt Hanna, Eric Exum, Matt Teply, Jonathon Nordhausen, Jim Knotwell, Joe Johnston, Joe Humphrey and Trevor Amen.  Rogan Einsphar served as the non-playing captain.
