Chase Co. golf team ends ‘21 season at district meet
The Chase County golf squad returned to Bridgeport and the Court House and Jail Rock Golf Course May 17 for the district meet. The team played the course earlier in the season for the SPVA conference tournament.
SPVA was a tough meet for the Longhorns and Head Coach Marissa McDaniel said the district meet was tough as well.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t see the improvement we were hoping for at Bridgeport,” McDaniel said, adding there’s a lot of pressure and a different environment when it comes to districts.
After driving through rain and fog to get to Bridgeport, McDaniel said it was surprisingly nice weather.
“The grass was a little thick and wet in the morning, but otherwise it was beautiful,” she said.
No CCS individual results were available.
Mitchell golfers placed first and third individually. Bridgeport also had two golfers in the top five.
The young team improved and learned a lot about the game and each other throughout the season, McDaniel said, and she’s excited to see what they accomplish next year.
CCS was able to field a team of five at most meets this season, something McDaniel said is extremely important.
The coach said team members need to play as much as they can this summer.
“Like any sport, repetition helps. Playing other courses outside of Imperial and Enders will also help,” McDaniel said.
In her first year coaching at CCS, McDaniel said she loved coaching this team and can’t wait til next year.
“They’re a great group of kids and I enjoyed watching them all grow,” McDaniel said.
