COVID numbers rise slightly in district; Chase Co. drops a fourth straight week

    Except for an uptick one week, new COVID-19 cases in  the health district have been in a steady decline since mid-November, according to numbers from the district office.
    At 363, the week of Nov. 17-23 right before Thanksgiving marked the largest one-week period of new cases in the Southwest Nebraska Public Health District (SWNPHD).         That week etched up sharply from 240 new cases the week before (Nov. 10-16).
    Except for the week of Jan. 5-11, when a spike of 50 more new cases than the week before were recorded and an increase of just three last week, new cases have steadily dropped in the district since the peak week with 363.
    The same week the district had that peak, Nov. 17-23, Chase County had 24 new cases.
    The county’s numbers didn’t increase back then for five weeks until the week right after Christmas, Dec. 22-28, when new cases shot up from 11 to 41.
