WP boys outmatched by Tigers in game on road

Despite a good first half effort from the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team, the squad fell to 1-7 with a loss at Dundy County-Stratton last week.
WP competed well with DCS in the first quarter. Braxton McKinney scored six points for the Broncos and WP was helped out by baskets from Grant Walker, Ruel Malcolm and Allen Ramirez.
WP trailed 13-15 with 1:28 left in the quarter, but responded with buckets by Garrett Hanna and Kyle Jutten to retake the lead, 17-15, by the end of the first eight minutes.
Hanna and McKinney scored all 11 of WP’s points in the second quarter. The Broncos held a one point lead with just under three minutes left in the half, but DCS closed out the quarter on an 0-8 run to leave WP trailing 28-35.
The Broncos’ cold shooting continued through the third quarter, during which WP didn’t score, and into the fourth.
Overall WP went scoreless for over 12 minutes in the game. McKinney and Michael Duvel hit three pointers in the fourth quarter of the 40-71 loss.
McKinney scored 14 points to lead WP. Hanna also finished in double figures, totaling 11 points.
