Volleyball season ends at subdistricts
The Chase County volleyball team faced a familiar foe over the season’s final weeks.
CCS traveled to Hershey Oct. 20 to end the regular season, then faced the Panthers Monday in the first round of subdistricts.
Heading into a rematch with in subdistricts after a loss to the Panthers last week, Coach April Lambert said her team was excited for subdistricts and focused on perfect passes and hitters transitioning strong and staying aggressive on the net.
In preparation, Lambert said, “We also worked on finding the reset button when we hit a patch of errors. We know that if we come out aggressive and play to win that we can get on top early and control the match.”
The Lady Longhorns did well through the early stages of set one Monday, but one rotation gave CCS trouble throughout the match.
Chase County led 12-10 until Hershey’s Shayda Vaughn rotated back to serve. The Panthers went on a 10-point run and took the set 18-25.
The Lady Longhorns continued to control the second set, leading the whole time, and had set point 24-21. CCS couldn’t get over the hump and, with Vaughn serving out the set, lost 24-26.
Except for six ties, Chase County led until late in the third set. After a tie at 21, Vaughn served Hershey to set point. A Panthers’ block gave Hershey the match, 22-25.
Bryn McNair led CCS with 18 kills. Alexis Richmond finished with 22 digs and 16 service receives. Kora Weiss had 34 service receives. Jerzee Milner tallied 17 assists and McNair had 10.
Following the match, Lambert said CCS just made too many errors.
Regular season finale
The regular season finale didn’t get off to the start CCS would like.
Hershey took a 0-7 advantage to start the match. The Lady Longhorns narrowed the gap to 9-12 before a series of CCS attack errors and Hershey kills put the set out of reach. Hershey won set one 12-25.
