Imperial native Gary Bragg to stream benefit concert Saturday night

    Imperial native Gary Bragg of Longmont, Colorado and the Gary Bragg Band will perform a live streaming concert on both Facebook Live and YouTube Saturday at 7 p.m. MT.
    The concert will feature Bragg on vocals, acoustic guitar and piano, performing a set of original music followed by a tribute set to Neil Young music.
    His sister, Roxanne Fromm, also sings in the band.
    The concert will be streamed from the Muse Performance Center in Lafeyette, Colo.

    People wanting to support the artists and venue can make donations at Venmo @museperformancespace or the Muse website donation page: www.museperformancespace.com/donate/.
The donations are split 70% to musicians and 30% goes to Muse for their expenses.
    Bragg said this week that live streaming of concerts will be how music is delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic. It could also set a trend for the future, he added.
Music a part of life
    After graduating from CCHS in 1981, Bragg followed in his father James’ footsteps when he chose Northern Colorado to pursue a music degree.
    While at UNC, Gary was featured on a record that remains  the only college vocal jazz recording to be nominated for a Grammy award. He also found his calling as a composer and was a finalist in the Elevox National Composition Contest.
    In 1986, Bragg moved to Denver and continued playing and writing music as well as teaching music at Cherry Creek Schools.
In 1997, he graduated with honors from the Sturm College of Law, University of Denver and later served as dean of students at Cherry Creek High School.
    For 15 years, he played piano and was the lead singer in the Steely Dan tribute band, Kid Charlemagne.  In 1995, he and another artist created Sons of Igor.
    He has also cowritten four musicals that have been performed in New York City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver and Washington, DC.
