IVFD responds to grass fire, mutual aid over weekend

The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) responded to two calls last week.
The first came in around 3:52 p.m. Friday reporting a grass fire near Champion.
“We don’t know how it got started,” IVFD Assistant Chief Brad Wheeler said. “I am assuming it was a spark from a vehicle, some hot brakes or something like that, because it was kind of scattered.”
The initial spot was on road 736, on property owned by Synergetic Corporation.
Wheeler wasn’t sure the total number of acres burned, “but we got it under control pretty quick.”
Lamar Volunteer Fire Department also responded to that fire.
The IVFD was called for mutual aid to a fire in southern Dundy County near Parks Sunday afternoon.
“Only a few guys went out there,” IVFD Chief Doug Mitchell said.
