Two dominant wins for varsity girls; big game at North Platte Friday
Two commanding wins for the Lady Longhorns last week will send them into a big game at North Platte St. Pat’s on Friday.
Chase County more than doubled the points Haxtun, Colorado and Hershey scored last week, as the wins pushed the Lady Longhorn record to 13-3 early in the week, with Tuesday’s game against Yuma, Colorado yet to be played.
After shooting over 40% in both games, Coach Randy Longoria’s extra time spent on that at practice is paying off.
“It’s an effort to find and maintain our groove,” he said of the emphasis on shooting.
“When you shoot that well in a couple of games, confidence takes hold,” he said.
That will be important as the Lady Longhorns travel to North Platte St. Pat’s Friday night.
St. Pat’s is 12-5 on the season. Chase County handed the Lady Irish one of those losses in the SPVA tourney semi-finals. Chase County, No. 3 seed in the tournament, went on to take the title.
They’ll be out for revenge and a win, Longoria said.
Chase County is focusing on shooting and defense this week. He’s certain St. Pat’s will use the box-and-one on Mallie McNair again, which means others will need to step up and score.
