New girls’ individual game scoring record confirmed

Another girls’ basketball record has fallen by the wayside at Chase County Schools.
It was believed that senior Mallie McNair set a new individual game scoring record when she scored 36 points Jan. 11 at Kimball.
But at the time, the school’s record sheet for individual game records couldn’t be found to confirm it.
A check in past issues of The Imperial Republican, however, found that the last report of a girls’ game scoring record was 35 points in 1997 by then-senior Laci (Mumford) Ganstrom.
She held the record 22 years after hitting 14 field goals, one trey and was four of six on free throws in the December 1997 game against Sidney.
At Kimball earlier this month, McNair hit 12 field goals and four treys to break the record with 36 points.
The Kimball game was just two nights after McNair broke the Chase County career scoring record of 1,116 held be Cathy (Weir) Renk.
McNair, who plans to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Kearney after graduation, also holds CCS girls’ records for points scored in a season (455 in 2018-19) and for three-pointers in a season (41 in 2017-18).
