Girls’ times improve on state meet course
While they finished out of the medals this year, Chase County’s girls have nothing to be disappointed about with their state meet performance.
That’s the assessment from Coach Carl Zuege on the Lady Longhorns in Kearney last Friday at the Class C meet.
One of the big reasons for that statement is all of the girls ran well over an average of a minute faster than times they recorded on the same course Sept. 30 at the UNK meet.
In team standings, Chase County was 11th.
“We knew it would be tough competition, but we ran a nice race. The girls felt afterwards they ran as hard as they could,” he said.
Top finisher for Chase County was senior Madison Brown, who was 56th overall in a field of 98.
Chase County’s other three scorers were Caelyn Long, 67th; Riley Owens, 81st; and Kambree Meeske, 84th.
Rounding out the team were Brooklyn Christensen, 90th, and Lindsey Mendenhall, 92nd.
When removing the runners who weren’t part of a full team at state, Chase County’s individual placings for team points were Brown 32nd, Long 38th, Owens 50th and Meeske 53rd. Christensen was ranked 59th and Mendenhall, 61st.
