Proposed school budget up for approval Monday night

Patrons will have a chance to give input on the 2019-20 budget for Chase County Schools at a hearing next week.
The public hearing is set for 7 p.m. as part of the board’s regular meeting at the school.
The proposed budget includes a 3.8% increase in tax askings from $7,973,792 to $8,277,200, or an additional $303,408 in spending.
The proposed budget is asking for the same building fund and Quality Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund (Q-CPUF) dollars.
Jeff Olsen, CCS board president noted 80% of the school budget is spent on wages, and the increase proposed reflects about the same percentage as what the compensation costs are increasing. Those include salaries, health insurance and retirement costs.
The board meeting will actually start at 6 p.m. Monday with preliminary business on the agenda first.
The board usually meeting the second Tuesday of the month, but was moved about a week later as the budget was being finalized.
