Seven teams signed up for the Dance Crew Contest Aug. 17 during the Chase County Fair.
Despite the warm day, a large crowd gathered in the open air pavilion to watch youngsters, ranging in ages six to 17, put forth their best performances.
The teams who traveled to Imperial for the contest were Perkins County High School cheerleaders, Another One Bites the Dust, Sweet Dreams, both from St. Francis, Kansas, Legacy Mini Cheer Team, Legacy Senior Cheer Team, Legacy Youth Cheer Team and Legacy Dance Team, all from North Platte.
Each team had been working all summer for the opportunity to show what they could do, said Vanessa Terryberry, contest coordinator.
Routines consisted of everything from traditional cheer moves to interpretive dance.
First place  was Legacy Dance Team. They received a trophy and $450 in prize money.
Taking second place “Sweet Dreams.” They received a trophy and $350.
The Perkins County High School cheerleaders won third place receiving a trophy and $250.
Voted outstanding performer was Stephen Ryan, member of Legacy Dance Team, who received a variety of prizes including a ticket to that evening’s concert.
Judges for the competition were Allison Pryor, Matalie Wallin, Allison Sandman and Holly Lempke.
In between performances, entertainers performed for the crowd, giving judges time to choose winners and fill out comment sheets.
There were hula hoop contests, special dance performances and a 9-year-old busting a few of his own dance moves.
During this intermission, Sydnie Allen performed a song by Lady Antebellum, and the Southwest Nebraska Rodeo Queen, Megan Pendergast of Maxwell, spoke to the crowd and team members.
The contest ended with Terryberry thanking audience attendees for their support, competing teams for their time and hard work and everyone who helped to make this year’s contest a success.
