With final plans in place, Chase County Fair just around corner

    Fair board members and volunteers are scrambling to complete final details, but the 2019 edition of the Chase County Fair is just days away.
    It will arrive whether we’re ready or not.
    Fair Board President Chad Oxford said they are ready after completing some every-other-year painting and cleanup on the fairgrounds.
    As the board prepares for this Friday’s Wrangler Roundup steak dinner for fair sponsors, where they expect to serve 450, Oxford is eyeing next week’s schedule that includes a few changes.
    Major on the schedule change is the switching of the demolition derby to the Sunday, Aug. 18, time slot after holding the Thursday night spot for decades.
    In its place on Thursday night, Aug. 15, this year is the Heartland Pulling Series Tractor Pull, which was held the final Sunday of the fair in 2018.
    “We’re really hoping the switch will help with a better car count” for the derby, Oxford said.
    But more immediately ahead are the first few days of the fair, much of which is focused on 4-H/FFA livestock events.
    The first official event of the fair is Sunday morning’s 4-H/FFA horse show.
    On Monday, youths will be showing their dogs and companion animals, while youths in the poultry and rabbit contests will be in the spotlight later that morning and afternoon.
    According to the Chase County Extension Office, this year’s poultry show will be the largest of all the fair’s 4-H/FFA contests with 107 poultry and ducks to be shown.
