Digging started for new city well

A crew from Sargent Irrigation of Broken Bow began the digging work for the new Imperial city water well Wednesday morning in Campbell Park, south of the water tower along West 6th Street.
Imperial Public Works Director Pat Davison said Wednesday involved “mostly just setting up.”
Wednesday’s crew was tasked with digging the hole and setting the casing for the well.
“Another crew will come in later to do the pump and the well,” Davison said.
City workers were also on the scene Wednesday morning to move a water line.
“We moved it to be out of the way, but now it’s in the way,” Davison added.
Earlier this year, Imperial city council members approved Sargent’s $275,762.50 bid for the new well. Sargent’s was the only bid received, but came in about 13% below the engineer’s estimate, said Chris Miller of Miller & Associates at the May 9 meeting.
Council members chose the protective block house option versus metal due to longevity. All but one other well in the city have the block house.
The original park well being replaced was drilled in 1936.
The well should be completed by mid-October, Davison said.
