Authorities respond to accident near Champion

Authorities responded to what was thought to be a rollover accident southwest of Champion on Tuesday around 3 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle was Shelly Christiansen of Plainview. Christiansen was driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer, owned by her daughter Sydney Eversole of Haigler.
“The report was it was a rollover accident but it wasn’t,” Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said. “But what happened was this lady was heading south on 321 Avenue and lost control and went in the east ditch, which caused the tie rod to break.
“Someone drove by (once the occupants had left the vehicle) and they thought the vehicle had rolled so they called 911 and reported a rollover accident,” Mueller added.
EMS and Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) also responded.
IVFD was en route when they received a 1022, “which means we were called back; they didn’t need our assistance,” IVFD member Brad Wheeler said.
“We were within a mile so we thought we’d just check it out and make sure everything was good,” Wheeler said.
