Candidates in several local races, others unopposed address questions at forum

    Candidates met with the public last week for a forum at Chase County Schools.
    One of the organizers, Jan Elliott, went around town prior to the event and handed invitations to each candidate, whether they were running opposed or unopposed.
    Six opposed candidates showed up to answer questions, while three unopposed candidates also made an appearance.
    Candidates in races with opposition included Preston Smith (mayor), Jacci Brown (County Commissioner, District 2), Debra Clark (county clerk), Craig Loeffler (city council), Duncan Einspahr (County Commissioner, District 2) and Billie Hayes (county clerk).
    Those unopposed included Arlan Wine (county attorney), Cynthia Schoenberger (treasurer) and Dotty Bartels (county assessor).
