First day of school brings hellos, goodbyes, hugs

Classes for the 2018-19 school year got underway at Chase County Schools last Thursday when a throng of students and parents filled the sidewalks leading up to the school building. Above, Amanda Jantz guides her son Andy up the walk. He started kindergarten this year, one of 39 starting school for the first time. Not far behind is daughter Avery, a second grader. Kindergarten teacher Jordyn Haake, middle, gives a high-five to Anthony Manley, another new kindergartner she remembers from roundup earlier this year. The first day of school also is a time for photos. Below, Abbie Siemers and Meghann Pursley take a minute to snap some shots of their daughters Jocelyn and Ashlynn, both first graders.
