New medical student on rotation at CCCH/clinics

Katie Mutke is currently a medical student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. She plans to graduate in 2020 and then begin her residency.
Mutke arrived at Chase County Community Hospital and clinics on Aug. 14, and will be shadowing medical personnel until Sept. 19.
Her plans are to go into internal medicine, specializing in cardiology.
“I would like to work at a large hospital, particularly an academic hospital, because I am interested in teaching in the future,” Mutke said.
She said one of the most interesting rotations she has had so far was at the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Children’s Hospital of Omaha.
Over the last week that she has been here in a smaller medical facility, she said she has noticed a big difference from larger hospitals in that there is better, more personal communication.
“I don’t feel as lost, and people come up to me to say ‘Hi’,” Mutke said.
