Fair hitting crescendo with so much more on tap

With many activities of a jam-packed Chase County Fair already in the books, fairgoers need not worry.
There’s much more left to take in and experience.
Friday’s Wrangler Roundup Supper for sponsors served nearly 400. The 4-H horse show, the opening fair event, had a great day of weather for its competition Sunday.
The majority of the 4-H/FFA livestock shows are over, but one of the largest, the beef show, takes center stage today (Thursday) at 8:30 a.m. in the show barn arena.
The fair’s 4-H events conclude Friday with the 8 a.m. rocket launch, 9 a.m. round robin showmanship contest and livestock auction at 2 p.m.
Sales for Friday and Saturday’s grandstand concerts are moving along.
As of Monday morning, Fair Board member Jake Burke reported that ticket sales have been picking up in recent days for the shows.
Friday’s Brothers Osborne show with special guest Kendell Marvel has sold 1,395 tickets or 37.7 percent, Burke said on Monday.
For Saturday’s Sebastian Bach and Jack Russell’s Great White concert, nearly 850 tickets have been purchased for 22.92 percent.
Burke said there are usually a lot of walk-up sales this week, as people finalize their week’s schedule. He expects sales to be brisk as the weekend shows arrive.
Carnival opened Wednesday
The first of four days of carnival rides and activities kicked off Wednesday with a 5 to 11 p.m. ride special. Ride specials continue on Thursday and Friday, with two on Saturday, as the Heartland of America carnival returned to the fair.
Those individual $25 ride specials are in addition to the mega ride pass, which provides unlimited rides all days of the fair for $59.95.
Mega ride passes can be purchased at the fair ticket booth on the walkway.
Thursday events
ABATE will hold its first of three early morning breakfasts on Thursday at the Eagles stand from 6 to 9 a.m. The feeds continue on Friday and Saturday at the same hours.
The big Thursday afternoon event is the Talent Search, an official preliminary for the Galaxy of Stars semi-finals at the Nebraska State Fair Sept. 1. The local contest has a 1 p.m. start in the open air pavilion.
According to organizer Wynne Adams, entries will be taken until 12 noon on Thursday. However, Adams would appreciate a call beforehand at 615-495-7375 from those late registrations. Seven were registered on Monday, she said, and she hopes to double that by Thursday.
Vocal, dance, instrumental or variety acts are welcome in the following age groups: 12 and under, 13-18 and 19 and older. First, second and third place will receive $150, $100 and $50 and all three this year will advance to the state fair.
Members of the 9th St. Singers will perform at the start of the show.
