Museum to host local photographer’s work

“Afternoon with the Arts” is the name of this Sunday’s special presentation at Chase County Museum.
Pat Schoenfelder of Imperial will be present for a showing of her photography and discuss her work with visitors.
Schoenfelder said she has always taken pictures, especially of family.
Four years ago, she decided to follow her dream and get serious about it.
She considers herself a nature photographer. Her work focuses mostly on wildlife and landscapes.
“It’s a different ballgame from taking casual family pictures. In nature, you have to go to it and be ready to catch what you see,” Schoenfelder said.
She explained that it is not really harder. A person needs to be observant, spot it and take the picture.
“Capturing those special photos takes persistence. You can’t control the lighting or the scene. You can’t ask the subject to turn their head this way or that. It takes continuous dedication to find and photograph those special moments,” she said.
Schoenfelder drives all over the country, taking the back roads, to look for the right photo.
“I take my time. When I see something with potential, like a bird in a tree, I don’t drive on by. I stop and take the photo,” she said.
