Division III team reigns as coed tournament champs
The No. 4 seeded team came through the loser’s bracket and twice defeated a team without a tournament loss to end this year’s coed softball league season.
Division III defeated Sons of Pitches twice Monday night, earning the top $200 cash prize for winning the title. That’s after they came through the loser’s bracket after dropping their first round game to No. 5 seed BYOB.
After fighting their way back in the loser’s bracket, Division III came up against BYOB again, but this time beat BYOB in the semi-finals earlier Monday. That sent them into the finals against No. 2 seed Sons of Pitches, where they won the first game 13-2 and then clinched a 15-13 game for the title.
Sons of Pitches, which went home with the $125 runner-up prize, also finished second last year. Third place BYOB was awarded $75.
The league tourney was scheduled for a one-day affair on Sunday but rain forced it to be continued to Monday night.
League coordinator Jennifer Stafford said they were able to get six games in Sunday before calling it a day due to rain.
Four games were played Monday night including the two semi-final games and two championship contests.
