Speed limits higher; road projects underway

Drivers in Nebraska are now enjoying higher speed limits on two-lane highways. Speed limits increased to 65 mph when LB 1009 became effective July 19.
    District 7 Operations and Maintenance Manager Kelly Doyle of McCook said that basically all highways in District 7 are now at 65 mph.
    Area highways now with the 65 mph speed limit include:
    • Highway 6 from the Colorado state line to the Hwy. 6-34 junction west of Culbertson.
    • Hwy. 61 from Benkelman to Ogallala;
    • Hwy. 23 east from the Colorado state line to the Hwy. 23-83 junction south of North Platte;
    • Hwy. 25 from Trenton north to I-80 exchange at Sutherland.
    The higher speed limits do not apply through communities with reduced speed limits,
Milling repairs
    Doyle said a milling crew milled just two areas on Hwy. 61 north of Imperial last week.
    These included an area north of the old hog farm and an area between the Richard Johnson home and John Maddux home.
