Smokin’ the place to be this weekend

Don’t miss the fun this Saturday at Smokin’ on Broadway.

Months and months of preparation will be celebrated this weekend when the third annual Smokin’ on Broadway hits the community. If you can’t find something that interests you there this weekend, well, you’re probably out of town.
With music, cooking contests, mind-challenging events, races, the paint-in, food and visiting, with fun for the kids added in, it will be the place to be to celebrate summer.
A bold idea for a BBQ contest that came with an on-site painting of a beautiful mural that continues to grace the city building is now filled with a variety of events. The Smokin’ committee of volunteers continues to add to the day of events each year, making it more inclusive and enjoyable.
Some of the new events this year include a Hot Wings (eating) Challenge, a morning 5k race, the “escape room” contest in the library and skateboarding demos/instruction at Imperial’s new skatepark. While it’s not new to the community, the fire department will also have its dunk tank on site for the first time at Smokin’. Several new bands will be in town for the fourth annual Ramble Mills (formerly Hear Nebraska) concert in the grassy area along Broadway.
So, come out and spend all or part of your day Saturday enjoying the events right along main street in the city office parking lot area. Temperatures are forecasted to be cooler than last year, too. Thanks to the many, many volunteers who help make Smokin’ a successful summer event here.
