Chase County students rack up district music awards

Chase County Schools hosted the 5 West District Music Contest last Friday.
Including CCS, 11 schools competed in vocal and band events.
Vocal director Randy Hayes’ students performed well, receiving NSAA plaques for mixed chorus and show choir.
This was the 12th consecutive year for mixed chorus to receive the plaque, and the 22nd consecutive year for the 9th St. Singers.
To receive the NSAA plaque, all three judges must give a superior rating.
Each judge can award an outstanding performance certificate to a solo or ensemble considered to be the best heard all day. Large groups judged by more than one judge were not eligible for this award.
The vocal students came away with four of these certificates.
For band, Senior Amber Stumpff came away with two superior ratings for two different instrumental solos.
Both concert and jazz band received an excellent rating.
Band director Agnes Strand was excited to see Stumpff do so well.
“I was pretty pleased with the day. The judges were tough, but that’s to be expected at districts,” Strand said.
Here are Chase County’s full results from the contest.
