Transportation director loving space at bus barn
When asked what’s the best thing about the school’s new bus barn, it didn’t take Rex Felker long to answer.
The Transportation Director at Chase County Schools said the biggest plus is all the room and their location closer to the main school building.
“It’s great. It’s like seventh heaven working in the shop,” he said.
Construction of the 112 x 70-foot metal building started last fall, and the move to the new building was made early last week, Felker said.
The school’s 10 route and three activity busses have been housed at the Wellington facility prior to the construction of the new barn.
Now that the Wellington property is under private ownership, relocation of the bus barn is the final step in moving all school programs to the East 9th Street campus.
Felker said all three activity busses will be housed inside the building. Route busses will be parked outdoors as they have been in the past.
There are four bays inside the building. Three will hold the activity busses, and Felker said the fourth bay will be used primarily for maintenance and repair.
