Construction continuing on new homes in Cornerstone

Progress continues to be made on six new homes being built in the Cornerstone Development.
The homes are being built by Dana Point Development. That is the same developer that won housing tax credits to build 10 rental homes on East 2nd Street in the Cornerstone Development.
In April, Dana Point purchased six lots on the north side of East 3rd Street from the city. All were in Block One of the Heather Estates Second Addition.
Infrastructure development on East 3rd began in 2015 with paving completed in the spring of 2016.
Matt Thomas, owner of Dana Point, said the construction process has gone a little slower than hoped.
Originally, the company wanted to start construction in late May but had to wait until early July before receiving approval from  all the state agencies involved.
Assuming no further delays, Thomas said the first home should be complete in early January. He’s targeting the end of February to have all the homes completed.
Five of the homes will be rental homes. One home will be rented at market rate. The other four will have lower rents based on the renter’s household income and number of family members.
The sixth home is an income-restricted spec home that is for sale.
