Karen Ann Stapleton, age 68, of Wauneta, died unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2017, in Imperial, Neb.
Karen was born on April 10, 1949 in Denver, Colo., to parents Richard and Winifred Herburger.
She was the firstborn of five and is survived by her siblings Dianne (66), Richard (61), Michael (58), and Joanne (55). She graduated from Alameda High School in Denver in 1967.
She spent most of her adult life in Aurora, Colo., where she worked part-time as a housekeeper while raising her boys and investing in her grandchildren.
In 1999, Art sold his glass company in Denver, and he and Karen bought a beautiful piece of property near Wauneta, Nebraska. They moved there after and planned to spend their graying years living and working in the country.
Karen was a faithful and loving wife. She was a dedicated and prayerful mother and grandmother. She treasured her faith in Christ, Bible study and quality time spent with her family. She also found pleasure in her flowers, wild birds, her chickens, good books and writing and painting.
Karen was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Arthur; her mother, Winifred, and her two sons Joseph (47), Erik (45), and her grandchildren Jonathan (27), Sage (23), Cole (17), and Toby (11), JohnMark (19), Sierra (18), David (16), Joel (11), and Summer Faith (3); her great-granddaughter, Chloe (5) and her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. CT, Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Hamlet Union Church, in Hamlet, with Pastor Joshua Clark officiating.  A reception followed at the church.
All were welcome to attend and celebrate Karen’s life.
Visitation was from 2 to 6 p.m. MT, Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
Interment will be 1:30 p.m. MT, Thursday (today), Nov. 30, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
A memorial has been established to Samaritan’s Purse.
