Agricultural event coming to Imperial

Mid-Plains Community College has been planning its  first day-long event that will focus on agricultural leadership, inspirational people and the entrepreneurial spirit in southwest Nebraska, northwest Kansas and northeast Colorado, said Brenda Ledall, Imperial Campus Coordinator.
This event is called “Celebrating Agriculture” and will take place on  Feb. 28, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church event room.
One of the keynote speakers, Marji Guyler-Alanis, is an Iowa photographer, advocate for women in agriculture and founder and president of FarmHer.
Guyler-Alanis has a weekly TV show on RFD-TV spotlighting women in agriculture.
According to Guyler-Alanis, the purpose of FarmHer is to  change the image of agriculture and to include women in that image through photographs and stories.
Other keynote presenters, said Ledall, will be the Peterson Farm Brothers from Assaria, Kan.
The Peterson brothers are Greg, Nathan, Kendal and honorary “brother” Laura Peterson. They produce entertaining and educational videos on their own YouTube channel while farming with their parents in Kansas.
The Petersons travel around the country speaking in support of faith, family, farming and agriculture in the form of humorous parodies.
Websites for both the Peterson brothers and Guyler-Alanis are petersonfarmbrot hers.com and farmher.com.
In addition to these keynote speakers, there will be several local speakers involved in agriculture, sharing inspiring stories and giving presentations.
The Chase County Schools’ 9th Street Singers will be opening the event, and a high school music group from Ogallala will be entertaining during the lunch hour, said Ledall.
Coffee, rolls, snacks and lunch will be provided at the event along with door prizes.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at any Mid-Plains Community College location at a cost of $59 each.
After Feb. 1, 2018, the tickets will increase to $75.
