MPCC, Imperial enjoy strong relationship

During the past eight years, the outreach efforts of the college has continued to grow in many ways.

When Mid-Plains Community College decided to extend their campus to Imperial, it proved to be a benefit not only for the college and the community of Imperial but to the many students from the area that take advantage of the college’s offering.
The success of the college’s launch, along with the support from the Imperial community, paved the way for Mid-Plains to invest in new facilities here.
My how time flies as it’s already been eight years since Mid-Plains opened their “new” facility on north Broadway.
During the past eight years, the outreach efforts of the college has continued to grow in many ways.
Students at Chase County Schools can take dual-credit classes to complete some college hours before leaving high school. With a joint program between the school and the college, a student can extend their studies for an additional year at the local campus and finish with an Associate’s Degree in one year.
Students can begin their college careers right here in Imperial at a cost far less than what they would find at a four-year institution.
In addition, that same student can take classes here and online and finish a four-year degree without ever having to leave Imperial. That’s due to partnerships Mid-Plains has with Chadron State College and Bellevue University.
Mid-Plains has shown great success with their “extended” campuses in Imperial, Ogallala, Broken Bow and Valentine.
Due to that success, the Mid-Plains Community College board of governors voted to remove “extended” from the names of these campuses.
With the success of the regional campuses and the services being offered locally at each campus, the board felt they should be considered part of the main campuses at North Platte and McCook.
What started out as an outreach effort with part-time staff has now grown into full service campuses.
Mid-Plains has already expanded facilities in both Broken Bow and Valentine to meet the growing needs there. Now, they are looking forward to what the future may bring for Imperial’s campus.
Both Imperial and Mid-Plains have proven they need each other and the relationship they share plays a critical role in each other’s success.
