Hubert Merle Haines was born Aug. 21, 1932 to Rolly Roy and Maude (Sauer) Haines in rural Dundy County, Neb. He passed away on Aug. 16, 2017 in his home at the age of 84 years old. He was the eleventh of twelve children. Hubert grew up on the family farm north of Benkelman.
A lifelong resident of Benkelman, he was united in marriage to Helen Joan Ellis, daughter of Daniel and Cynthia Ellis, on Jan. 29, 1951 at the Pleasant Valley Friends Church. They had three children, Daniel, Linda and Kenneth.
For many years he worked for his father-in-law Dan Ellis on the farm. Eventually he was able to start his own successful farm and ranch operation.

In 2005 he started dating Sally Hollenbaugh and soon they became a loving couple. His family grew when adding Sally’s two daughters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to the family.
