Wheat and pea field plot tour a precursor to wheat harvest

Farmers from throughout the region converged on Grant and Brandon Tuesday to attend the University of Nebraska Extension wheat and field pea plot tours. The morning began with a tour of field peas on the Steve Tucker farm northwest of Brandon. Participants then gathered at the Henry. J. Stumpf International Wheat Center just east of Grant for the wheat tour. A number of pea and wheat seed trials are being conducted on the respective plots. With wheat harvest quickly approaching, producers got an up-close look at more than 20 wheat varieties, along with a number of experimental varieties, under trial at the center this year.
