Seniors pick up three wins in last week’s action

It proved to be a fruitful stretch for Imperial’s Senior Legion team last week as they picked up three wins in five games.
After suffering a 17-8 loss here to Holdrege on Tuesday, June 6, the seniors went 3-1.
Their first win came at Hershey Thursday, June 8 when they defeated Hershland (Hershey/Sutherland) 12-11.
After falling to Broken Bow in a close one there, 6-5, the seniors came back with a double header sweep of Hershland Sunday.
They took a 22-3 win in the first game and followed that up with a 9-0 win in the finale.
In their only game last week, the juniors fell to Holdrege 5-3.
Both teams will be in action on the road this week.
They opened the run at Ogallala Wednesday and then travel to Cozad Saturday and Gothenburg Sunday.
Holdrege
Imperial trailed 3-1 after two innings but gave up five runs in the third and could never recover.
They did add two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings  but Holdrege got two more in the fourth and seven in the fifth.
Carlos Chavez led the hitting, going 2-3, including a double. Will Kuenne, Trevor Peterson, Josie Peterson, Duncan Rector and Jack Bauerle each added singles.
The seniors left bases loaded twice and stranded a total of 10 runners.
Chavez got the loss on the mound, giving up 10 hits over three innings.
Bryce Zuege went one and a third innings, giving up six hits and four walks.  Trevor Peterson finished the final two-thirds, giving up just one hit.
Hershland
The seniors’ first win came at Hershey, with a one-run, 12-11 victory.
The seniors went scoreless for three innings and got their first run in the fourth to find themselves trailing 11-1.
The seniors scratched their way back, scoring four in the fifth, two in the sixth and five in the top of the seventh to go up 12-11.
Hershland threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs before Austin Laird got a strike out to end the game.
In the fifth, Chavez, Zuege, Laird and Bennett Bauerle all singled and scored. Jack Bauerle got hit by a pitch and also scored.
