Students enjoy fun in sun at elementary field day

The sun showed up just in time for Chase County Schools (CCS) elementary field day Monday. K-6 students enjoyed a day filled with various games including whiffle ball throw, hockey stick potato race, under the hurdle race, sack races, javelin throw, short sprints, soccer dribble, between the knees relay sneaker hunt, shoe fly and wheelbarrow races. The elementary’s competitive nature debuted throughout the day as students competed against fellow classmates. From top, Taylor Maddux and Spencer Kelley come flying out of the their starting positions while competing in the under the hurdle race run by Jodie Schuller, K-6 physical education teacher. Bodie Yaw, a first grade student, raced down the track to tag his relay partner’s hand. Some of the boys take on the girls in an epic last minute tug-o-war match. To the boys’ surprise and dismay, the girls overcame the challenge and were proclaimed champions. (Johnson Publications photos)
