Chase County earns SPVA title twice

Both Chase County teams repeated as the SPVA Conference track champions Tuesday in a rescheduled meet at Hershey. Originally on the schedule for last Friday, poor weather moved it to Tuesday. The Lady Longhorns won by a large margin, pulling in 234 points ahead of second place No. Platte St. Pat’s, who tallied 87. The Longhorn boys captured the title by a 28-point margin ahead of runner-up Perkins County. In some of the track action Tuesday, Caleb Weiss, above, runs the anchor leg of the 3200 meter relay with a strong 2:02 split, holding onto a second place finish for the team that also included Juan Venegas, Tagan Mays and Scott Wheeler. Jadin Bussell and Sutherland’s Payton Hoatson are neck-and-neck in the 100 meter finals, but Bussell edged her for a fifth place medal. Watch next week’s issue for a full SPVA meet report.
