Students give high marks to Valley Forge, Washington D.C. excursion

It’s an annual trip for students at Chase County Schools, but each year, those traveling east for the annual Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge (FFVF) trip return home just as enthused.
This year’s week-long excursion was held March 16-22, with eight students and two sponsors.
Last Thursday, the group reported on the trip’s highlights to a crowd of more than 50 at the Lied Imperial Public Library.
Students on this year’s trip included Bridgette Odens, Jadin Bussell, Will Kuenne, Colton Burpo, Lauren Gockley, Abigail Almanza, Peyton Fiedler and Bryce Zuege.
Sponsors were Chance and Chandra Thayer of Imperial.
The youths shared time talking about the trip while showing photos in a power point presentation.
One of the trip highlights came in Washington, D.C., where the group traveled after spending the first three days in Valley Forge, Pa.
While getting ready to go on a tour of the White House, which is a first in several years for the FFVF youths, the Chase County group spotted President Trump and Vice President Pence in a motorcade leaving the grounds.
“The kids were pretty excited about that,” Chandra Thayer commented.
While in D.C., the youths also took the night tour of the monuments and attended “Ragtime” at the Ford Theatre.
At the FFVF seminars in Valley Forge, the CCS students enjoyed the historic presentations by men depicting John Adams and Alexander Hamilton, both in full colonial garb.
High school students from Florida, California and Texas were also in Valley Forge at the seminars the same time as the CCS students.
FFVF members served refreshments at last Thursday’s program.
Chase County’s FFVF chapters raises most of its funds to send youths to Valley Forge and Washington D.C. each spring from its Christmas House held during the holiday season.
