FBLA chapter brings home two honorable mentions

    The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Convention in Omaha drew in over 3,000 people April 4-8.
    There are over 5,800 students in more than 150 schools that participate in FBLA. The hope of FBLA is to create leadership development, career preparation, community service, networking with business and community leaders and challenging competitions.    
    The foundation focuses on four key areas of supports: education, leadership, programs and scholarships.
    Out of the nine Chase County Schools (CCS) FBLA member attending and competing, two brought home honorable mentions.
    Rose Sullivan received 12th place in personal finances, a category that had over 300 participants, and Ella O’Neil got ninth in keyboarding applications, which had 61 competitors.
    Only the top three contenders move on to compete at nationals. Nationals will be in Anaheim, Calif. this year.
    The team prepares by using Quizlet, an online website created to help students study and prepare for competitions.
    There are various categories like team performance events, speech events, interview events or presentation events with equipment and many more.
    “There are 25 students in FBLA, but between track and other event we could only take nine. It is always a good experience for the students,” said Sandy O’Neil, the CCS FBLA sponsor.
