Local artists claim some of top awards in Holyoke show

Carissa Hill, left, and John (Jack) Frederick, both of Imperial, won a pair of the top awards in the Phillips County Arts Council’s annual show last month in Holyoke, Colo. Hill’s pencil-drawn nativity scene won the “People’s Choice” award, while Frederick’s “Red Barn and Longhorns” won the “What’s Your Farm or Ranch Inspiration?” division. Both also won other divisional ribbons. Lance Wurst of Grant earned “Best of Show” honors for his professional watercolor titled “Longhouse—Mesa Verde.” (Johnson Publications photos)
