Wellington site makes sense for future fire hall

Relocating at Wellington would also mean tax savings.

Much discussion has circulated the past year or two about the future of the Wellington School site in Imperial. As the last home for Chase County High School before the new building went up on East 9th Street, it has a lot of history in this community.
Now, as Chase County Schools administration and the school board get closer to a potential sale of that property this summer, it makes sense to lend support for that property being transformed for the next fire hall location.
It’s time for a decision on locating all of the equipment of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) in one, centralized location.
A location in which drivers don’t have to maneuver fire trucks in and out with just a few inches to clear on each side of the fire barn’s entry doors, as is the case now.
One where they don’t have to house expensive equipment off site because there’s not enough room in the downtown location.
Wellington is also centrally located, like the current location on Broadway, for good response time, and would provide room for expansion, if needed, down the road.
