Quilt benefit will aid local youth

Jim Sims, at right, is 100 percent recovered from an accident last November in Dundy County that sent him to a Denver hospital, but medical bills remain. That’s why Bea Bauerle of Champion is coordinating a benefit raffle for the Chase County sophomore, who is a fellow church-goer at Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial. Bauerle did the piecework on this lap quilt in colors of red, black and gray, and a friend in McCook did the quilting. All proceeds from the raffle will go to Sims, she said, adding that she enjoys donating quilts to help people like him. Last year at this time, she gave away 15 quilts to veterans in her church, and now she and her quilting group are making quilts for graduates who attend the church youth fellowship. Tickets for the quilt above are $2 each and available from Bauerle or at The Imperial Republican office. The winner will be drawn April 15. (Johnson Publications photo)
