‘Murder at the Juice Joint’ coming to Imperial library

This year’s production has a Roaring ‘20s setting

An evening of murder, mayhem and the mob is promised by Friends of the Library when they stage their annual “mystery” production later this month at the Lied Imperial Public Library.
Twelve cast members have been announced for “Murder at the Juice Joint,” which will be performed at the library Friday, March 31, at 7 p.m. by a local cast.
Cast members include Melody Newman, Rick Elliott, Rob Browning, Cindy Bahler, Dirk Weiss, Sue Moore, Jacci Brown, Dwight Coleman, Nick Roenfeldt, Jan Elliott, Doug Gaswick and Nichole Welsh.
This year’s featured play, the fourth annual, is set in the Roaring 20’s.
That era was chosen, said Friends of the Library board member Jan Graham, because it coincides with the  Imperial library’s 90th anniversary on June 27 this year.
The March 31 production centers around The Juice Joint, a swanky speakeasy that’s experienced nothing but “jumping” business with the passing of prohibition and a rise in organized crime.
Rosie is planning a party at the exclusive night spot. However, one of the names on the guest list is also on someone’s hit list.
The previous owner was Rosie’s late husband, Louie, whose body was found floating in the river. Foul play was suspected, but no one was charged with the murder.
Audience participation will be encouraged, Graham noted, “to find out whodunnit.”
She said there will be a lot of spontaneous fun as the cast makes up lines to gather information about the murderer.
Here are more specifics on the cast members:
Rose Marie, Juice Joint owner (Newman)—Louis Marie’s widow Rosie not only inherited a gold mine but the power that comes with it. Is Rosie out to avenge her husband’s death or capitalize on it?
