CCS show choir sings way into finals at Grand Island
Chase County’s high school show choir, the 9th St. Singers, placed in the top six of 17 groups Saturday, advancing them to the finals at the Grand Island Senior High (GISH) Islander Invitational.
Director Randy Hayes said the 9th St. Singers received the first place trophy in its division. It was the first time they performed in the finals since they started attending the GISH Invitational.
Chase County was one of just five groups in Classes B, C or D. The others were all from AA/A schools.
Divisions were prep (JV for large schools), unisex, Class B-C-D and Class AA/A. Other groups in Chase County’s division (B-C-D) were from Ord, Harvard, Central City and York.
At the end of the day’s performances, only the top six scoring groups, regardless of division, were selected to perform again in the finals competition, Hayes noted.
In the tallying, the 9th St. Singers placed fourth overall in the prelims.
The other five groups giving final performances were from Gretna, Elkhorn South, Lincoln Northeast and two from GI Northwest, all AA/A schools, Hayes said.
The 9th St. Singers received the fifth runner-up trophy in the finals competition.
Hayes said a huge honor for the Chase County group was earning the second highest point total in the “vocals category.” The only group scoring higher was Gretna which went on to win the finals.
