Local pastor gives opening prayer in Unicameral

Local Pastor Robby Clay  had the chance to pray for wisdom for Nebraska state officials as he opened a session of the Nebraska Unicameral with prayer.
The chance came last Thursday. He said he received a letter a few weeks ago from State Sen. Dan Hughes of Venango, who represents Imperial and District 44 in the legislature, offering the opportunity to say the prayer if he was ever in Lincoln.
He said it worked out that he and his family could be in the state capitol last week.
Pastor Clay’s prayer wasn’t the only activity for he and his family while in Lincoln.
Sen. Hughes escorted them on the tour of the Capitol building, including the “secret” chamber his four children enjoyed.
During the tour, Sen. Hughes explained the Capitol’s ornate architecture and history of the murals.
One of the mosaic pieces in the Great Hall recalls the Blizzard of 1888. They learned how a grandmother saved several children by wrapping them in a blanket and taking them to safety.
“The kids kept asking for the next couple of days when they can go back to the Capitol,” Pastor Clay said.
