School board accepts Larry Munger’s resignation, approves IEA agreement

Long-time science teacher and coach Larry Munger tendered his resignation, effective at the end of the current school year.
During their monthly board meeting Tuesday night, board members accepted his resignation “with sincere appreciation” for nearly 40 years of service to the district.
They noted in addition to his teaching duties, Munger has helped with coaching and even drove a bus as needed.
While Munger’s was the only resignation acted upon, the resignation of Media Specialist Sonja Burpo is expected. The Burpo family indicated they will be locating closer to the front range after the school year.
The board also went into executive session for nearly 45 minutes to discuss negotiations for both certified and classified employees.
After the closed session, board members reconvened and approved the 2017-18 negotiated agreement with the Imperial Education Association.
The agreement calls for a base salary of $34,200 for a new teacher with a bachelor’s degree.
For each additional year of experience, the base salary increases $1,539, up to maximum of five years.
The schedule also provides the same increase if a teacher adds additional hours of further education, beginning with nine hours, 18 hours, 27 hours and 45 hours.
The same applies for teachers completing a Master’s degree with additional hours towards a doctorate.
The agreement also provides for full payment of single health insurance coverage.
More coverage of the meeting will appear in next week’s issue.
