Bank that started in Enders marks 100 years in county

The charter from the Nebraska Department of Banking was signed Feb. 13, 1917, and now hangs in the lobby of First Bank & Trust Co. in Imperial.
Started as First State Bank in the Village of Enders, the bank has continued a presence in Chase County for 100 years.
Monday marked the bank’s 100th anniversary. Local employees and officials from First Bank & Trust’s headquarters in Cozad were on hand for an anniversary lunch to celebrate.
Nearby was a table full of bank memorabilia that will remain on display through February. People coming into the bank Monday could choose from free calendars, mugs and other gifts marking the 100th anniversary, which will remain available.
Kirk Riley of Cozad, President/CEO of First Bank & Trust Co., said they have been honored to be part of Imperial and to serve the people of Chase County and surrounding area.
“It’s all about people,” Riley said as he commended the Imperial branch’s six staff members.
“We are proud of our staff here. They put the needs of our customers and community first,” he said.
Riley noted the importance of staff being involved in and giving back to their community, which is a philosophy at all of their branches.
For 90 years, the bank operated as First State Bank. Original directors listed on the 1917 charter include R.E. Cocklin, John W. Green and A.F. Morris.
