Longhorn boys close out regular season Friday, subdistricts next week

Chase County’s Longhorn boys’ basketball team will close out the regular season with a home game Friday.
The Longhorns will take a 4-17 mark into the game against Sutherland, which comes in at 7-11.
The two teams met in the consolation bracket during the SPVA tournament with the Longhorns taking a 36-34 win.        Action kicks off Friday with the jayvee game at 5 p.m. MT.
The Longhorns come off a weekend with no games after their last win Feb. 3, against St. Pat’s, 61-52.
Normally, the Longhorns would have had two games last week.
The game at Hershey got rescheduled to an earlier date this season because Hershey was hosting a district wrestling meet there this year.
The other game was always with Holyoke, Colo. However, they dropped Chase County from their schedule.
Subdistricts Monday
That leave’s Friday’s game as the final tune-up before the Longhorns enter subdistrict play Monday.
The Longhorns go into the C1-11 subdistrict at North Platte High as the No. 5 seed.
They will face the No. 4 seed, 12-10 Cozad, in the play-in game, which begins at 6 p.m. MT.
The two teams met on the opening weekend of the season with Cozad coming out on top 59-47.
The winner of that game will advance to play top-seeded, 21-2 Gothenburg Tuesday at 5 p.m. MT.
The teams on the other side of the bracket include second-seeded Hershey, 16-4, and third- seeded Ogallala, 12-10. That game begins at 6:30 p.m. MT Tuesday.
The subdistrict final will be played Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. MT.
